5 Signs You Need a New Website

If you’re looking to improve your online presence, one of the most important factors to consider is the design of your website. After all, you want people to be able to navigate through your site with ease and feel confident that they can trust your brand. Your website design needs to be visually appealing to catch the attention of potential customers, as well as give them the information they need to make a purchase or download an ebook. Your website also needs to be functional, safe and secure. Today we look at the top signs you may need a new website.

1. Responsiveness

If your website isn’t mobile-friendly (responsive), it will discourage potential customers from interacting with your brand. In today’s market, it’s essential that your website is responsive in order to remain competitive. A responsive website will adjust to fit the screen size of the device that it is being viewed on, providing an optimal experience for the user. Having a responsive site will also help your customers find you in the first place. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is important for ensuring that your website appears as the top result in relevant searches. In recent years, Google has expressed that in order for websites to perform well, they need to be responsive across all desktops, phones and tablets.

2. Security

In today’s world and in the age of GDPR, website security is more important than ever. If your website is not secure, it could be hacked and your customers’ information could be compromised. This is why it’s so important to make sure your website is designed with security in mind. Your website should have up to date security features to help protect your customers’ information. Don’t forget that you will also need to have secure hosting and an SSL certificate. If you think your website isn’t secure and it’s been a long time since you’ve made any updates; you probably need a new one.

3. Outdated Design & content

Your website is one of your best tools for marketing your business and attracting new customers. You decide your voice and your message that give people a lasting impression of your business. If your website design is outdated, it can give customers the wrong impression about your business. A huge mistake that many Irish companies can  also make is to do a rebrand of their logo and marketing material, but totally forget to make these changes to their website! If your five year-old website doesn’t reflect the modern aesthetic or personality of your brand as it is today, it’s time to redesign.

4. Poor User Experience (UX)

A website should be designed with the user in mind. If your website is difficult to navigate, takes too long to load, or is otherwise frustrating to use, this will reflect very poorly on your business. A professional web designer will take UX into account when creating your site, ensuring that users have a positive experience. Think about what action you want to take place on your website. Are you trying to sell a product? If so, how fast is the checkout system on your webpage? Are you looking to generate leads? Ask yourself; how easy is it for users to quickly get the information they need and then fill out a submission form? If you’re not getting the interaction you need on your site, chances are that the UX quality is lacking.

5. Rivalry with Competing Websites (SEO)

If you notice that your website is no longer ranking as highly on search engines as it used to, or if you have competitors with newer, better looking websites, it might be time for an upgrade. A good website should be optimised for search engines, and part of that is keeping up with the latest trends and best practices. Some of the above factors that we have mentioned today also play a direct role in Google ranking your website poorly. If your website is not secure for example, especially if you’re an e-commerce site, that’s another big sign that it’s time for a change. Certain things can be done to affect your SEO ranking positively in small ways, however, depending on how old your site is this may be a waste of time. If your website is more than five years old, it’s probably time to take the next step and upgrade.
